Beginning Biblical Hebrew
Most people think language study is for scholars. This class will dispel that myth. We offer a variety of approaches to learning Biblical Hebrew geared to various learning styles, that not only will prepare the beginning student to read the Bible in its original language, but will also provide a glimpse into its culture.
This class uses a variety of methods to introduce the beginning student to Biblical Hebrew. We will focus on recognizing and pronouncing the aleph bet and vowel points, and songs, introduced through the study of verses from the Hebrew Bible itself. You’ll have lots of fun training your eye to read in the correction direction? Of course, from right to left!
Why learn Biblical Hebrew? As S.E. Fassberg was recently quoted as saying in the Jerusalem Post, “Over the ages, Hebrew has been a continual source of fascination for Jews and Christians alike. This is because knowledge of Hebrew has been viewed as the key to grasping the original meaning of the Old Testament.” Martin Luther once said, “The Hebrew language is the best language of all, with the richest vocabulary...I would want to learn this language, because no one can really understand the Scriptures without it.”
All ages are encouraged to attend this class. See the FAQ for class schedules.
